Base Tables and Listing Other Things Than Nodes
Video Tutorial on Drupal Views, presented by Johan Falk, describes how Drupal Views uses base tables to store and access different types of data. After introducing base table, the video provides a practical example of using views to create a list of taxonomy terms.
Views lists are not limited to nodes and Drupal core content, lists of files including uploads e.g. images, pdf's etc can also be built using views.
Base Table Concepts:
Every view has a data table or base table it uses when collecting data about content, users, and things to display on the website. Different base tables store different types of data. Base table in a basic Drupal installation include; comments, content, Files, content revisions, taxonomy terms, users and a table for modules, themes and theme engines.
When adding a new view, the base table (hence the type of data) to use can be selected from a drop down list.
